Perceptions of Development under Viksit Bharat: A Thematic Analysis of Economic, Social, and Infrastructure Dimensions
Rayan Kapoor
Abstract
This paper examines citizens' perceptions of development under the Viksit Bharat vision using qualitative responses collected through a Google Form from 21 respondents. The analysis uses open coding and axial coding to identify five major themes: economic well-being, social development, infrastructure and urban living, governance and inclusion, and sustainability. The findings show that participants recognised progress in employment opportunities, public services, education, healthcare and infrastructure. However, they also highlighted persistent concerns regarding inequality, women's safety, traffic, public service gaps, transparency, pollution, and environmental degradation. Overall, respondents understood Viksit Bharat not only as economic growth, but as inclusive, sustainable, transparent and citizen-centred development.

Bharat Innovates 2026
In August 2026, I traveled to Bharat Innovates 2026, a conference bringing
together some of India's sharpest founders, engineers, and policymakers to
talk about what a self-reliant, innovation-led Bharat could look like by 2047.
Walking the show floor, I sat in on conversations about manufacturing, robotics,
and Industry 4.0 — booths run by engineers building everything from advanced
CNC machining lines to autonomous systems, each one a small bet on India's
next decade.
What struck me most was the energy: young founders speaking with the confidence
of people twice their age, and veteran industrialists genuinely curious about
ideas from twenty-somethings. It felt less like a trade show and more like a
preview of the workforce and ideas that will carry Viksit Bharat forward.
For Viksit Voices, the trip was a reminder that this project isn't just about
interviews — it's about showing up in rooms where the future is actually being
built, and bringing back what I learn to a wider audience. I'll be sharing longer
reflections and conversations with some of the innovators I met soon.
